Vicky Smiths New Setup

pc on a carpet, static is v bad put it on some wood or some shit
i hate to be 'that guy' but basic electronics knowledge would tell u thats rubbish ... most pc cases are metallic and are earthed(via the psu ,by law) ...grounded metal objects cant hold an electrical charge .

(Dont read on unless ur a geek)

if your interested the reason we use ESD bands and mats when handling components eg. building pc's (yeh right no one does) is because they are unplugged (not grounded) and we are handling the components directly. The biggest risk to components electrically is letting things touch each other in handling , ie if you pop a graphics card in the same 'bag' as the mainboard the caps on one might discharge into a sensitive component of the other.

edit: oh and i know you say piece of wood but for anyone taking that to mean Laminate floor? , that stuff is awful for static anyway as its most often laminated in plastics or coatings that along with 'socks' generate great static charges

The real question is:

How much more FPS does the mousepad give you!?
