Changing twitter avatar

I don't know if the question has been posed but I can't get my avatar to change, I put the link in does it have to be from a certain site. 
If anyone can inform me on the process that would be greatly appreciated

make sure the link ends with .jpg or .png

oh it should be a local link?

it will need to be a weblink so imgur or gyazo but has to have the file type on the end so a direct link like imgur.com/cowsheeopdoghybrid.jpg
