Help Staticz build a new PC

Hello as your probably reading on this post I need a new PC due to my current one being really bad. I have such a bad PC at the moment because when I was young I did not know anything about parts and other specs needed to play games so I bought a HP Pavilion, I know what your thinking stupid right... But I did upgrade my graphics car from integrated to a 750 which I bought off a friend and its maybe killing my PC due to my PSU being terrible.

Over this year I have been saving for a new one my budget for when it is to be built or bought my current budget is 700-900 pound looking for a PC that will run most games like Arma 3, Rust and much more big games any help is appreciated please link websites that build for you because I'm really just a spoon to be honest or just a website that sells a pre built PC's

My current specs are below:

@Zeito@basedalexWill need some help with selecting parts if anyone of you is on teamspeak tomorrow.

I won't be available unfortunately.  But you probably want to aim for something like an i7 6700k, 16gb ddr4, 250gb ssd or higher, gtx 970/980/980ti/1070.

The rest is pretty much up to you. If you want to pm me any choices I can have a look for you :)

I have been doing a lot of research on this topic since I am ordering a new gaming PC myself.

Here are a couple of points for consideration.

*Make up your mind on whether you want an AMD or Nvidia n Intel components. AMD is a budet friendly plus more readily available in Europe and particularly Uk. Where I live, (Dubai) the market favors NVIDIA.

*If you decide to go with AMD, stick with it and try not to mix and match, select only the best fit for an AMD based rig. Yes at the moment, AMD, Intel and NVIDIA components are compatible (hasn't always been this way). But you want a smooth functioning PC and not a beehive that lives on errors due to hardware mismatch and constant errors.

*Contrary to popular belief, AMD is not inferior to NVIDIA, its more of a case of PEPSI vs Coke, for the record, PEPSI, kind of a situation. Saying that, AMD is more budget friendly. NIDIA just spends more money on advs.

*Do try to invest the largest portion of your budget into a processor, graphics card and motherboard, preferably all 6th gen. This will eliminate the need to upgrade and additional expenses in the next dare I say 3-5 years (no joke).

Yes, it is quite expensive but I also work on my PC so the components are not only for games but also video and audio editing and photoshop.

Similarly, consider this kind of setup that I have at work, Now it wont be a monster but it will be a desent rig.

Here it is:

Processor Intel Core i7 6700K, LGA1151, OEM
Cooling DEEPCOOL Maelstrom 240T, S-2011v3/2011/1366/1156/1155/1151/1150
Power ATX 650W AeroCool VP-650
SSD  240 Gb Kingston HyperX Fury, 2.5", SATA III
SSD  120 Gb Kingston HyperX Fury, 2.5", SATA III
Graphics card PCI-E 4096Mb ASUS GTX 960 Turbo OC, GeForce
Motherboard Asus H110M-K D3, LGA1151
RAM DDR-3 DIMM 16Gb/1866MHz PC14900 Kingston HyperX Fury Black, 2x8Gb Kit, BOX

Also more or less time proof except for the GPU.

P.S, When it comes to RAM, 4 is too little and 32 is an overkill, the best safe ground is 16GB. Ram cards are not expensive. (Opt for 8x2 over 4x4 slots), according to the technicians, 8x2GB is more efficient AND stable in terms of overload.

The 750W Power Supply is sufficient for any system with upto 2 Graphics card such as Titan x so going above 750W is a waste of money unless ur building a NASA PC.

Good rig, almost what I recommended but 1070? Really? That card is way way wayyy out fo his budget and will be for some time to come. 1060 is the new 960 GTX and will be in the market for some time and a fan fav like 960-980 have been.

Going for a 1070 in his case will raise the price by like 500$. In that case, he can just buy a Graphics card, put it on the table and look at it and get dirty with it. ))))))))

Sorry yes that should have been 1060, I was typing it out on my phone having just woke up at 7:30am. Typos do happen.

So I hopped on PC Specialist and made a PC that I would maybe buy but its just an idea price is £894

@Staticzlooks good to me - Only thing you might want to add (or if you cna customise it) would be to stick an SSD in for some perofrmance gain if the OS/Games are installed on it, and the standard Intel cooler is a bit wank. Note your CPU is the 6700 and not the 6700k which means it's not overclockable, or not easily. Though if you're not fussed on OC'ing your pc, then the standard cooler and the 6700 will be just dandy my friend.

Good setup for a decent price, looks good Staticz, 6700 in under a grand is nice, as the master said Zeito ssd is worth having if you can squeeze that in there (you will notice the difference) and the case is ugly af but thats my personal preference :)

might be worth salvaging your old HD from your old computer and saving the money there to put to the SSD

enjoy anyway buddy.

Very nice! I agree with the lad who mentioned the cooling, with that processor and the graphics card kicking up the heat, standard cooling might be a bit weak but still workable. Remember, the higher the temperature, the slower the process power. On the topic of SSD Vs HDD disks, SSD will give u a boost yes, but in case with Arma3 that boost will be only on loading screens and we dont have much of those. In other games like GTA SSD is really a necessity rather than luxury so tailor ut PC for ur needs and possible games. IF u ever play the Devision, SSD is a must too.

About the OS, almost all distributors have an option of giving you a Win7 OS if you ask for it. They only reason they push Win10 at everyone is bcos is it good for business.

DO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOT run a desktop PC on win 10 pls! Atm, win10 is a non stop driver conflict generator. Opt for Win7Pro instead, you will always be able to upgrade to Win10 for FREE online.

Back where I worked, a PC or a laptop was not even allowed to be connected to the server if it was Win10, it is a pain in the bottom left buttcheek that is.

If they say that they dont have Win7, opt for an empty HDD and buy win7 CD online, installing OS on ur system is a piece of cake if u have the CD. Trust me.

As for the box, I would recommend to get something as smooth as possible without much holes or any fancy irregularities, dust LOVES those places. If u have a smooth surface CPU Case, cleaning it will be just a simple swipe.

There's so much that is factually incorrect here.

  • Temperature only has an effect on CPU power when you go over 80-100C on the cpu and hit thermal throttling. So slightly warmer case temps arent going to have any effect whatsoever.
  • SSD in arma gives a HUGE boost. Every object, texture, model loaded from the SSD is fetched faster. It doesnt 'just apply to loading screens'
  • Windows 10 is absolutely fine for any modern PC as a desktop OS. Your statements about this are just bullshit. Win 10 is also the only way for you to use the new DirectX platform. Windows 7 is good, but is now outdated.
  • Case 'holes' are ventilation you muppet. Dust loves anything, you know whatelse loves those holes? Air. For cooling.
Please do not make statements like the above without actual knowledge about the systems involved.

My sources - I am a professional IT Administrator, System builder, and I daresay I have a solid reputation on these forums for my technical advice and system knowledge. There is a reason my forum 'rank' is what it is, and why I am consistantly tagged into PC build/Support posts.@lioneldo you have anything to add to the above?

So @StaticzI would heavily advise you discount what the guy above has said. Some of those statements cannot be described as anything other that total nonsense.

The master has spoken,

I am sorry if any of my comments have upset you to a degree of showing your lack of manners and dignity. Saying this, I am not about to discuss anything with a person who calls a stranger a muppet and is most inconsiderate in his approach. I can only shake my head in disbelief.

Young man with the PC, by all means, do as this man says and God help you. Best of luck with your gaming PC. Hope to see you around! Good luck.

I'm so glad you corrected all of this. It actually hurt to read xD

Anyway, as for the actual build, everything suggested looks good.

Go for the SSD if possible, and I'd also say pick up 16GB of RAM and disable your page file. If that's not possible, make sure your page file is set up on your standard HDD rather than the SSD, don't want to kill it too quickly xD

As Zeito said, go for Win 10 if possible. Personally I'm on windows 7 but will be looking to upgrade as soon as DX12 is more widely used in games.

If you end up with a non stock cooler, you should probably pick up some decent thermal paste too.

Other than that, I think everything's pretty much fine.
