Dude they got 1k over their goal last month and they want even more -_-

Its recuring, it pays for the server costs as well as other things that needs to be payed for, as well as look at the player base and the amount of work that has to be put in, they deserve it. @Kristofer

@Kristofer It's a monthly goal. Going over last months goal means that if they don't meat this months, there is some money left to pay the recurring bills, so no danger of a shutdown of services. Just because last month's goal got met doesn't mean the goal for this month is not the same. It's not ''Them wanting more'', no one is making a profit out of this

(and if you believe they do you're free to not donate and just wait and complain about no 50% off until others actually do donate. But don't expect anyone entertaining your complaints =))

@Khandamir Tbh they probably do make a bit of money because it is always surpassed(whenever I have checked) but I can 100% say they deserve it.

@Simon Ross As someone who has been here for a month, thats a bold assumption to make =P Let me simplify.. Donations are made to a non profit account.

Afaik it's not even possible to deduct hard cash from that account or to transfer it to other private bank accounts. It's used to pay the bills and that's it. There is no access to the funds that anyone can actually abuse. This is the way it has been set up over the past 4 years and considering the amount of times the goal was not met, I think it's a safe bet to say there won't be a hell of a lot in that account xD.

As a ex-staff member I can safely say that, at least during my time, no one profited from the donations but the community itself =).

@Simon Ross Anything over goes into a fund for when we don’t get the goal that month I ca safely say none of us have received a bit of money. @Kristofer It’s a monthly goal read what Khandy put he explained it very well it is not about wanting “extra”.

@Khandamir I have been here for a lot longer than a month, its been closer to a year and for those times I was active and checked it has always been met and surpassed so I would guess there is probably a fair amount in that account. And tbh you all probably should because of the amount of time and effort you guys have put into the server. @DjHolyChirst

@Simon Ross sorry, I just looked the forum join date and assumed thats when you joined =P. Anyway, even if there is a fair bit in that account, I agree (as do the staff and management team afaik) that they are donations towards the server. A rainy day fund. What if the goal doesn't get met for many months in a row? The goal used to be 500, but we got so reliant on people making a 100+ pound donation every month to make it, that it got lowered. I think that ever since the development team became much more active in pushing weekly updates, the goal continuously got met and beaten, which ofcourse is good. Running costs obviously aren't the only costs the server has. Hardware has to be replaced over time, or upgraded to increase performance.

I am confident that no money donated to the server was ever used to just fill the pockets of those running it. They wouldn't do that and they don't need it. The developers and management team have their own sources of income (it's called a job =D).

As an example to this I can name @TinyBigJacko who put a lot his time into full-time developing for a while, but he ofcourse has his bills to pay. He, as an honest man, put the option to donate directly to him on his profile page. Many of us did donate a bit towards his own pockets, so that he could provide in his income while developing for the community. He could just as easily have asked or demanded a share of the RPUK donation funds and never tell the community, but he didn't, he gave people the option to donate to him and was always honest that the money would be going in his own pocket. People appreciate what he did and donated so he could keep doing that. That is the RPUK way =).

Ahhh Okay, I think there should be something added then so that once the donations goal has been surpassed by something(like 500 -100 pounds) It gives the option to donate to the devs & staff team...

@Simon Ross

I don't think we should set that precedent to be honest.

The reason why the staff team, devs, community and management team do what they do is because they're proud of what they and people before them have achieved here.

The only thing that keeps this community running are the people who come to play on the servers. Donations may come and go, and though we've been lucky enough to have been supported by the community throughout the entirety of the servers history, one day that goal may not be hit. That's why any extra is saved rather than handed out to any of the team, it's invested in the future.

Thinking back on the last 3 years for myself as a member of the team here, there's not a single moment where I thought I should be paid for this. We all do this in our free time as a hobby, it must be a hobby at this point. Making sure things run smoothly and the experience continues to be enjoyable keeps our players coming back, and that keeps our staff coming back.
