No reason to buy a gaming laptop they aint the greatest its better to keep playing on your rig tbh. It all matters what you're going to school for. If its just for making documents you dont need an amazing laptop.

1st option, laptops and gaming together doesn't work.

Fair, I don't believe any of the work I'll be doing is anything but word, web browsing, and some sort of spreadsheet looking application. So something simple would do the trick, I'm hoping I don't need to spend more than 600pounds on it.

And no work for me at airport, Corona fucked that for me..

I very recently purchased a Lenovo V15, its a bit overkill for simple applications like Word. It works well for essay writing, the keyboard is a decent typing experience.

Its selling for £450 or £500 ish for Windows 10 Pro version.

Let me know if you'd like to know more about it.

Don't get a gaming laptop, unless you like to burn money on a paperweight in about a year and a half

Don't get a gaming laptop, there's no way they can beat or even come close to your desktop. I'd recommend getting a laptop just for school work.

If you really want to low ball it, you could go with a Chromebook if you really are looking for just the standard office-like suite of apps, however if you think you may need any extra apps (or apps that only run on Windows) I'd recommend going with a relatively cheap laptop like @M recommended (or maybe a little cheaper, an i3 will do for what you want).

(I'd never personally buy a Chromebook myself, but I've found that for some people they are plenty enough, and their batteries tend to last for hours on end)

I wouldn't recommend a Chromebook if you need to use Microsoft Office 365 for any part of your work. I've heard from people that I've worked with that Chromebooks are terrible for compatibility with Office 365.

Honestly I'd recommend a Windows computer, because it's the OS that we all use. No need to learn new things, not that there will be much to learn, but it's the convenience. And for battery life, I'm sure you can find a wall socket somewhere!

Yeah if you want O365 then 100% go with a Windows device, Chromebooks are only really good if you can use the Google suite of apps. If your school makes use of O365 (and mandates that you use it) then I'd go with a Windows device.

"because it's the OS that we all use" it's the OS that most of us use 😉 personally I've found Linux to be a pretty good fit for my laptop, but that's probably since most of the time I'm programming on it
