'ello 👋

Just want to throw out a small QoL suggestion that could hopefully save people some headache when it comes to bike helmets.

Right now, if you're riding a motorcycle, you're technically required (by law at least) to wear a helmet- which makes total sense.
The problem is, if you're wearing a cap, beanie, or any other sort of headwear, GTA won't let you throw a helmet on top of that. Either you're wearing your normal hat, or a helmet, not both.
So to stay within the law, you'd need to change outfits every time you get on or off a bike, which might not always be possible and also gets a little tedious after some time.

My suggestion would be a helmet toggle system that lets you put a helmet on when getting on a bike, and take it off once you're off- without needing to change your outfit each time.
It could be done in a few ways:
  • /Helmet command that equips a helmet
  • Auto-equip script that detects when you get on a motorcycle and automatically puts on your helmet when you get on, then takes it off and restores your previous look when you get off.
  • Helmet as a usable item in your inventory: Similar to another suggestion that was only made recently, having Helmets as an item in your inventory you can equip/unequip could also be a good solution
I'm not quite sure how the game would pick which helmet to equip- maybe it could go off any presets in your wardrobe? Or perhaps helmets could be on a separate tab in the clothing stores?
I'm sure other people have had similar ideas before and also have a better understanding of the limitations in place, so feel free to discuss as always.

Thanks for reading

I think it is definitely a good suggestion, having to always a helmet on your character as a hat, and having to put it away until you are on a bike is very frustrating. I feel like alot of people won't use the /helmet command or won't know about it, but if it could be added to the caps lock menu like surgical gloves, that would be pretty amazing.

Only cons I could see is if people use it to disguise from police, but then police would just have to be more aware of it.

I think this could be an incredible addition

+1

"Helmets" could just be a separate category in the clothing store, like how gloves and other etc used to count as "Top"

That could most likely be done, but it would take alot of work, for example:
- Adding the helmet items to the shops menu
- Adding a new clothing option in the caps lock for that item
- Adding a new command for that item
- Adding a toggle button in the clothing shop so you can actually see the helmet without your hat bugging through
- Making it so whenever you put your helmet on, it takes your hat off, and vise versa
- When you log in, all your clothing options are turned on, so it would either bug the helmet and hat, or have to only have one of them on
- Have to make a way where wardrobe outfits don't bug
- Probably a bit of database configuring

Along with all that, as I mentioned before, crims might abuse it.

What could happen however, is having a helmets category in the shop, but you can only use that helmet when on a bike like the original suggestion. It means people like TFA or xyz can have nice helmets, but not have to sacrifice any other hats they want. It would still take some of the points to do it, but they wouldn't have to worry about all of them, however it might be interesting on how you can see what helmet you have on each wardrobe outfit.

I think for now, having it as a default helmet attached to the bike could be a great start, and then later down the line, it can be improved on, but being able to customize it is a big shout

On the police faction there is a menu to grab clothes from a vehicle.

Similar could be done for all motorbike class vehicles.

Have a few options for colours and style of helmet.

Any other specific design would have to be pre purchased by the rider.
