In your own words, please type why you think you were banned.
To put it bluntly, I was banned for making a very racist remark after being told to stop by Tiktak or face the consequences. Down below, I will try to explain what I think drove me to saying the stupid things I said that evening and why I think I should be unbanned. I would like to make it very clear that I do not stand by the things I said that evening nor am I in the habit of condoning rascist behaviour because I understand what kind of an impact racism can have on a person regardless of the context. Which is something that I will adress later in this appeal. Now, I do understand why the ban was put in place, to protect the community from the toxicity that some people possess. And if I was put in the same position as the admin I like to think that I would have done the same for the better of the community. I am ashamed of myself for saying the things I said that evening and I would like to apologize to everyone who was in the channel that particulair evening.
The rule that I broke is rule 1.2, (1.2) Discrimination of any kind is punished by a permanent ban without appeal
Why should we unban you ?
As for why I should be unbanned, I have seen a lot of ban appeals for similair offences and the most common reason that is put forward as to why someone believes that they should be unbanned is that they have matured since the ban and that they are sorry for what they did. I believe that this is not the case with me (please note that I am indeed sorry for my actions, and not for myself.)
Since my ban from teamspeak I have stayed away from playing arma for the most part and enjoyed the summer. This has given me ample opportunity to reflect on my actions and after a lot of time spent thinking, I have come to the conclusion that my actions were the result of a lapse in judgement caused mostly by three internal factors (sleep deprivation, me having had a few drinks, but nowhere near intoxicated and being stressed out in general due to uni and the way I was playing on the server.) rather than a consistently toxic personality. the latter I believe to be a problem for the community and should rightfully be and stay banned.
In my case, I believe that given my track record which is fairly clean and me staying out of trouble for the better part of the two years that I have been here*, the fact that I have proven that I am a capable roleplayer by reaching the rank of docter in the NHS and INS in the police and considered by many as friendly and approachable, and the countless suggestions I have made to help improve the server show that I care about the community and that my personality is not the problem. Also, instead of having a little outburst after my ban, I took it on the chin and stayed away from the community for a while on my own accord in order to contemplate my actions. To me, this shows that I am not here to cause trouble, and instantly understood the gravity of the situation and respect the reason as to why the ban was put in place and community as a whole.
I would also like to make sure that everyone who reads this appeal understands that the comment that I said which got me banned was not meant as a serious statement, but rather as a joke in incredibly poor taste, and it is not the type of humor I am into. The reason why I continued after being warned by Tiktak are the three aforementioned reasons causing a lapse of judgement during which I made two critical mistakes, those two being: for some incredibly daft reason I took Tiktaks warning as a joke, and then I said the extremely vile thing that got me banned.
After being banned from teamspeak I spoke with Tiktak in game for a good ten minutes in a civilised way during which we discussed the ban and established the following: A. The ban is only for teamspeak and I am allowed to continue to play on the server, B. Titkak encouraged me to appeal the ban as soon as possible, C. Luckily no one in the channel was offended and lastly, D. Tiktak would put a hidden note for staff on the appeal (this might be a problem as Tiktak is no longer a staff member.)
If I was to be unbanned I would make sure that I never say such vile things again and never play all night and drink again in order to avoid things like this from happening again. I will try to join a small gang and just casually play every now and then instead of hardcore grinding the game. Also, in regards to drinking making people express their true views and intentions, I believe that this is not the case, I think drinking makes some people do stupid shit in certain situations and for a while now I have abstainded from drinking.
*Except for the two bans for fail RP from the same situation, but these were quickly overturned without an appeal and I am pretty sure that there is a note on them that they should not be taking into consideration if I was to ever put in an unban appeal.
*There might have been a few indiscretions in the past, but there was never a malicious intent behind them.
PS. This was written using my mobile phone, so please excuse the poor formatting and writing. Also, I wil be on holiday for a couple of days, so I will not be able to pm a staff member my TSUID untill the sixth.
Edit - I have decided to include some extra information regarding the context of the ban, firstly I would like to add that the insensitive "joke" I made was not out of the blue. All throughout the evening people had been making jokes and as the evening progressed, people started making jokes like blanketbanthepolice etcetera and then people started to mention things like blanketban x or y (nothing about race, sexuality, or anything else that was classed as grossly offensive by the staff team member that was in the room) and then I took it a bit further by making a questionable statement after which I was warned by the member of staff that I shouldnt say such things. Then I instantly responsed to that by saying the vile thing I said and I was promptly (and rightfully) banned from teamspeak. Now, saying the thing I said warrants a ban by itself, and to add insult to injury, it was said right after recieving a warning. Now, as to why I considered the warning to be a joke? It was because of my personal relation with the admin in question, throughout our time spent together he would often jokingly say "Hey guys should we ban Anonymous Tiger for x or y" or teasing me by saying that I would recieve a ban as a joke between old friends. This combined with the three aformentioned stressors caused my lapse in judgement and made me say the thing I said that evening after being warned. Please do not be mistaken in thinking that I consider this to be an excuse, but rather an explanation for my utterly stupid action.
