Good morning all! Hope everyone is well, player numbers are up but server performance is down. All we can do as a development team is apologise, that we let it get to this state. It has been a slip on us rushing without proper testing of functionality and this has happened for too long. We have applied some fixes to the live server and we are looking for feedback on the performance, please tag myself on the discord server with any comments or feedback.

We have a meeting today to discuss the development way forward, and to streamline stuff as it does get very confusing working with so many people and speaking with so many people. Thank you for sticking with us, we will resolve the issues and get out those overdue features which have had to be postponed due to the server issues.

New VOIP:
What? Again? yes but this is even better though. Some things you will notice?

  • Echo's (the large the room/area the more echo there is)
  • Sound muffling through walls and doors. No more hearing peole through a couple flights of stairs in the PD. (It's not added to all interiors yet)
  • Shouting, Normal, Whisper actually affects how loud the voice is.
  • and more (keep in mind some of our custom interiors do not yet fully support all these features, but we are adding them in one by one)
  • Talking over radio now has a noise effect added. Which is really helpful not just to make it more realistic but to know if the person talking is near you or not.

It was later discovered that the new audio system by fivem is really broken, so it will be reverted for now 😕

New FiveM Netcode:

  • Long story short this will improve the server performance by going grid based with all the entities. Meaning all clients only have data about other players in the same grid they are in.
  • Hair color / tattoos / beard / skin syncing issues should be fixed.
  • There are loads more things that this will affect which might also bring with it its quirks and bugs. Please report them as usual.
  • FPS improvements for everyone!

Dedicated Testing:
We are going to be looking for a handfull of people to assist us in getting updates ready and making sure everything is in order. (and yes you will get a TS tag)

Final notes:

Please report any bugs you find after this update. There are a bunch of big changes but they are heavily needed for server performance and the only way we can see the effects is with a lot of players on, so bear with us while we work on the server issues.

EDITS:

We're aware of the new couple of issues on the server, here's a few

  • Sounds from eg locking vehicles are missing
  • ELS is broken, it plays sirens on random vehicles
  • Weapons aren't given to on player load (drop them & pick them back up for now)
  • Females spawning as male?

Double XP/Leveling on stats is now disabled, hope you used the time well! This might make a return in the future to promote other aspects and stats that come out. Thank you for sticking with us whilst we diagnose, fix and resolve various issues. Performance is getting better by the day and the devs are working non stop to improve server aspects and rewrite scripts in order to better support higher numbers.

  • The boat anchors now move with the wave. We're still investigating waves not working 🌊 @Hawaii

Final notes:

It isn't the most glamorous of updates, but our main focus at the moment is going back and improving old scripts and increasing stability / performance.
These do sometimes require some large changes to scripts, so lets us know if you find any bugs.

Hospital Check-in System:

From this update you will no longer be able to just lay on a bed by pushing [E]. You will need to check yourself into the hospital by going to the front desks at all hospitals. All hospitals have a limited amount of beds so if they are full up you need to find a new hospital or wait for a free bed. If you are feeling under the weather and alive you can check in for a doctors appointment however if you book a appointment and run away you will receive a fine for wasting time.

New / Notable Features

  • New gallery app, photos you take with the camera are now saved in your gallery. In the app you can share them on twitter and send as a mesage. You can also share the image to clipboard but it's not going to work until next update @Hawaii@Mike Polo
  • We are now enforcing the new GTA game build which contains both the Cayo dlc and the casino dlc, which means that we no longer need to stream them. The load times should be fast again, and our streaming directory was reduced by around 3 gb. This also means that all clients will get a prompt when joining RPUK that they'll need to restart their game to use the new game build. You can read more about it and learn about a pro tip so you don't need to restart your game here @Hawaii@TinyBigJacko@Mike Polo@Stealthee
  • The door locks has been revisited. Doors now have locking and unlocking states, doors now properly close at the closed position (not gates & sliding doors yet, TM), and general backend improvements @Archie
  • Re-enabled police helicopters to lock on to vehicles, but this time the lock on will automaticly cancel if you lose line of sight, or if the distance goes above 700 meters. Other improvements has been made to it aswell, such as only allowing the back seat to use it, fixed the zoom, added the helicopter altitude to the left vertical bar, the vehicle info text now also shows speed and distance @Hawaii
  • The NHS bed system has been redone @Archie
  • Added tutorial NPCs to different places around the map @Recon Nine@Archie
  • Added traffic managment for the cops, they can now close roads properly @Dan B

General Fixes / Changes

  • The weather and time sync has been improved. The shadows should now perfectly update without any "teleporting", the water waves are fixed, and the weather sync is much better (no more random weather change if you are driving fast) @Hawaii
  • Fixed house ID 116 or 118 having the wrong garage position @Hawaii
  • Housing has recieved minor improvements. The texts no longer swing around, and some texts improved @Hawaii

  • Temporary optimisations to the Queue System (the large q was causing some performance issues, we have temporarily made some changes that will improve this untill @Ciaranfinished the new and improved C-QUEUE™) In the mean time the time spent in queue might not update properly but the time in queue is depressing anyways. @Recon Nine
  • Various Optimisations to backend scripts (should be a decent server--side improvement) @Recon Nine

  • Over the last couple of days we have had massive queue times which led us to the discovery that the standard queuing system we used was horrible for server performance. We had to fly in a world class @Ciaranto write up something that could handle the massive queue lengths that we currently have. Hence we now present: C-QUEUE™. Again a massive thanks to Ciaran for helping us out.
  • Fixed rpuk logo often failing to load in chat @Mike Polo
  • Fixed hud speedometer issues + various other hud improvements @Mike Polo@Archie

Final notes:

I wanted to write this changelog even though I have done nothing this update other than shuffle papers and sign stuff. I just wanted to express my thanks to the development team for their continued effort in the optimizations, whilst it is honestly the worst and most boring thing to work on the guys have really stepped up to the mark! Recon9 I feel has been leading the fight against bad backend framework code, and has been sprucing some new life into how we interact with the db. It is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck around during the queues, crashes, poor performance. I hope everyone has noticed a general improvement across the board. Within the coming days, there is more updates to come with further optimizations and some long awaited minor bits which not many people care about which will make a return. See you on the other side!

  • VOIP: People were chatting so much shit that we had to move to an external voip server to handle it all. So far it seems a lot better and it has taken quite some load of the server. If everything goes well we will look at moving it permanently to a different server. @Recon Nine@Ciaran
