Late to the party, Altis Life mourning post

Yeah, yeah, I know what you're all probably thinking. "Just move on already," but I guess the issue is mainly that I didn't get to mourn with the rest of the community when a significant chapter of RPUK closed out Arma 3. I'm going to treat this as more of a collection of thoughts and less like a serious post. I'm happy to be back in RPUK. Eight years in this community, joining when I was 16-17. Seeing how much the community has grown in my absence is wild. But looking at all the profiles of people I played for hours and hours, days and days with, and seeing they haven't been on the forum in years, is more depressing than I thought. So much so that I felt I wanted to write this out.

I stepped away from RPUK for reasons many other community members did as well; I graduated high school, PC broke, was working, and was going to college. I planned to return but life just got in the way it seemed. Time flew by; before I knew it, it was 2019, and I was enlisting in the military and was gone non-stop for the next couple of years. Come 2023, I'm sitting there wondering if I should get back into Altis Life because I have a good PC now and like RPing. I downloaded Arma 3 and typed in the only Altis Life server I ever played on, Roleplay.co.uk (ALUK for the oldies); it's not there, of course, but I didn't know. So, booting up the old trusty forums, I was met with the End of an Era post. I read every single page.

I scoured through old profiles, looking to see who, if any, names I recognized were still around. Banned, Banned, Offline since 2017, 18, 18, 19. The End of an Era, indeed. That post stood as a testament to me aging that my youth is somewhere between far and long gone. All those memories, all those people, all that time spent. It's time I don't think I'd trade for the world, but I do wish I could go back and appreciate it a little more.

So, I hope you all can accept my sadness; I return to RPUK with open arms and an open mind in navigating the new GTA RP landscape for me. But my mind wanders back to the times spent as Kavala Hobo's and Cannon Fodder for Armed Response. To the people we lost along the way, I miss you and hope to see you again. I say hello to the new people I meet daily who weren't with us back then. You're teaching me so much and are patient for a nostalgic old man. My heart lies in Altis but my mind lies in Los Santos. I look forward to trudging along. For anyone who has read this far, just remember...

I'll never forget doing my police ride-along hours on altis, there was a gang who posed as a "very legitimate company" and asked for a police escort so they could "borrow" a large amount of money from the bank. They made word documents for it too, really put in the effort. The officer i was with called a couple other cops to bust them as soon as they started robbing the bank and it all ended in a beautiful orchestra of guns and bullets.

Altis was amazing

I remember I used to get police escorts from metal processing, to selling, back to Kavala bank!

I also remember dressing up as a work man with my friends and robbing a shop, the police allowed us to continue robbing the place and left due to us putting in the effort 😛

My frag videos are all I have left at this point

Some of the people I met on here are my best friends in real life.
