    CSO's get killed because they can do many things in a gun fight.

    1. Place spike strps.

    2. Drive MRAPs

    3. Restrained rubbered people.

    4. Mark people on the map.

    Just because they are unarmed does not mean they can't do anything. If there not stupid , they can be used very effectively.
