Short context:
People who have chosen the legal path, or people who are just trying to make some money on the side, have mostly chosen the taxi job as it is the go-to (legal) job to make money. Beyond being a taxi driver there are not many other similar options, besides food deliveries and commercial deliveries (truck deliveries I suppose you could call them). Food deliveries are mostly for starters, truck deliveries are based on player-owned businesses that place orders. Those orders are consistent, but they’re usually gone rather quickly.
Brief overview:
My idea was to add an all-out delivery system to Los Santos, as it could create legal and illegal opportunities. Though, my suggestion will mainly highlight the legal side of all delivery levels.
Speaking of delivery levels, I had 3 in mind:
1. Aerial deliveries: a job where pilots can pick up cargo at airfields and fly the cargo to other airfields;
2. Truck deliveries: a job where truck drivers can pick up cargo from airfields and bring them to player owned warehouses/businesses (think of these businesses as something like amazon or other web shops);
3. Package deliveries: a job where players can rent a van from the specific business (like amazon) or where they can use their own vehicles to pick up packages (multiple, depending on trunk size) and deliver them to multiple locations (in one run where each package has its own destination).
In depth suggestion:
All three of the delivery levels could be based on orders of player owned businesses or just on orders from locals. My suggestion would be to make package deliveries based on orders from locals. Aerial- and truck deliveries should probably consist of a combination of the orders from locals and the orders from player-owned businesses.
Aerial deliveries consist of bringing cargo from one airfield to the other. This cargo could literally be anything, think of random orders from locals. But there could also be an option to fly cargo that consist of orders (that have to be imported) of player-owned businesses. These orders should pay more than the reward for current truck deliveries (which maxes out at 10.000 I believe).
Aerial deliveries offer room for expansion to the current infrastructure of deliveries. Import cars (for example) can be flown in by certain qualified pilots, followed by a truck delivery to the import warehouse. It doesn’t just offer expansion for legal jobs though, like every other level of this delivery system, illegal jobs can be created for this job as well. Think of dropping drugs from your plane at a certain spot in Los Santos (maybe a field or a beach) or bringing weapons from one spot to the other.
In my opinion, pilots should have the option to do deliveries for locals as well to create a job that requires licensing and some investment, but pays better than driving locals around in a taxi (it would offer a similar way of payment).
This truck delivery system should basically be an addition to the existing infrastructure. At some time player-owned businesses could place orders for specific cargo. The second they’re flown in by aerial delivery, a delivery job should be available at the airfield it was delivered. If a delivery driver is in the possession of a commercial license, they should be able to pick up this order and deliver it to a (new) player owned warehouse or business (depending on the order of course).
There is even room for local jobs within these truck deliveries as well, but I’m not sure if that would be necessary / in demand as the current trucking-infrastructure would already be expanded with this idea.
A job where people can pick up packages (could be smaller bits of the earlier delivered cargo, could be isolated from this delivery system as well) at a (player-owned, possibly) business using a rented van or their own vehicle. The amount of packages that a deliverer can put in their vehicle should be dependant on the size of the vehicle’s trunk.
A deliverer shall then drive from destination to destination to deliver all packages, and would receive payment in cash per delivered package. Just like returning rented vehicles to the taxi depot you shall receive some cash back if the state of the vehicle is still good.
This job should always offer work, just like food deliveries. Players can start a new job at this delivery service, do the work, receive payment and always be able to start another one.
I have mentioned new businesses in the above suggestions where I used examples such as amazon or ‘new warehouses’ multiple times.
As all three delivery layers will add enough job opportunities, new businesses could be introduced as well. These businesses could be new warehouses, located next to or near airfields, but could also be businesses like amazon.
Why an example like Amazon though? This entire delivery infrastructure doesn’t just create the opportunity for (player-owned businesses) such as new warehouses (where package deliveries can be picked up), but also creates the opportunity to add an extra online environment (using a laptop or phone, think of a website or app). Where they could be able to order stuff (if they are in the possession of a house). This ‘stuff’ could be legal and illegal. Such an order delivery system could be bound to businesses/apps as well as a black market. Though, combining a black market with this delivery system should add some difficulty (I have not thought this through entirely yet, feel free to add suggestions of course).
These websites/apps/businesses could even offer a system where people can put their own items for sale as well, replacing Harris’ market for a way that is way more efficient and attractive to use (creating more roleplaying interaction). Could be an addition to the auction room as well.
Summarizing:
This idea is just mainly to create new legal and illegal jobs for players, creating a level by level job system in the city. New players can start off using the existing jobs (such as food delivery, taxi driver) and can make their way up (by purchasing new licenses) to truck deliveries, package deliveries and even aerial deliveries. I am also sharing this idea to gather the thoughts of the communities and pass them on to the DEV team (both the idea and the communities input).
Why this idea? I personally think the city would be (even) more fun if there are more ways to make money than selling drugs or doing taxi/delivery jobs for people who are not in some sort of group or gang (all jobs are available for people in groups/gangs anyway though). Next to that, this idea creates so much room for input, changes and expansion. It creates the opportunity for more player-owned businesses and changes the ways of making money and import of specific cargo (such as vehicles for example).
Either way, the work of all the DEVs does not go unappreciated! You’ve done so much so far and all your work is massively appreciated! I know this idea is quite a lot of work and I get that there is so much else to do as well, as there’s always criticism. Thanks again!
