Given the holiday season is coming up - I've been looking at idea's of how to make it more immersive and realistic in RP to gift something to other players whilst trying to retain the mystery of what the present could be.
For context, I'm currently trying to organise a 'Secret Santa' amongst what could be upwards of 20 people.
So far the only way I've worked out how this can be done - with some element of surprise for the recipient of the gift is by putting a couple of bits in a duffel bag and popping it on the floor or passing it to them, but this would then mean that I have to look at purchasing 20 odd duffel bags - at £15,000 a pop this is going to be an outlay of £300,000 - which isn't really an issue, but realistically are these bags going to get used once the mass present exchange has been done, or are they going to end up in the boot of a car, never to be seen again?
I hate wrapping presents personally, I'm shite with the sellotape and whatever I'm trying to wrap always ends up looking like I've had a kick about with it first, so for the most part I'm a gift bag main.
My idea is that we could get some gift bags/boxes added to the server.
How would they work?
Given their one time use and for realism, I believe general stores should be able to sell these as opposed to the standard container locations.
Pro's
- More immersion around gifting - birthdays, weddings, Christmas
- Could encourage more personal events, such as birthday parties
- Huge assumption here, given that I have zero idea how much dev work this would be - but it seems like the foundation of this is already somewhat there - given the existing moveable containers? (Forgive me if I'm wrong!)

How would they work?
- There would be two sizes of gift container
- Gift Bags - smaller of the two gift containers - maybe 1-3 slots - when in your inventory, they are carried like a duffel/secure container
- Gift Boxes - larger of the two - 5 slots perhaps? - when in your inventory they are carried like /e box.
- The person who purchases the box/bag can put items into the container and have the option to write a tag for the gift.
- Once the container has been transferred to another persons inventory, the ability to see what's inside whilst the container is taken away - the only way to retrieve the items is to open the present
- Opening the present will first display the gift tag message, if one has been written then move to an animation, similar to opening wads of cash or whatever devs deem best fit
- Once the present has been opened, the gift packaging disappears - so it's one time use
- Gifts should be able to be placed on the ground like an existing container - so at events, gifts can be left in a pile at a designated spot for whoever they are gifted to, to be opened at a later time/date.
- If the gifts are placed on the ground, they should naturally be able to be stolen.
Given their one time use and for realism, I believe general stores should be able to sell these as opposed to the standard container locations.
