Look familiar? Yeah, that's because there's been approximately 4,000 messages of people asking others to "go to liaison", that's a lot of liaisons... Staff have heard just about every rumour under the sun and have also noticed some pretty poor conduct and foul play creeping in, so, let's clear up how it should work.

Liaison Myths

"Liaisons are required prior to posting a player report"
They're not! It's absolutely not a requirement prior to posting a player report. If you believe that speaking over a situation is likely to further someone's understanding of the rules, it's recommended.

"Liaisons can be used to draw out an admission of a rule break"
If you're deciding to request a liaison for the sole intention of trying to pull an admission of a rule break, don't. It's just not what liaison sessions are for.

"Players cannot give compensation, it would be a breach of NLR/Metagaming"
Liaison's occur because there is a belief that a breach of our rules has occurred. It is absolutely an option for players to issue compensation to return items lost as a result of a rulebreak. However. Do not blackmail players, you are never forced to give compensation and staff will not look poorly upon players who decide not to give compensation. Likewise, giving compensation doesn't necessarily mean that a rulebreak has definitely occurred. It's also worth mentioning that compensation is for legitimate use in organic situations. Gangs/Groups/Players who issue compensation following a situation in order to recoup assets as planned, is not acceptable, players involved in conduct of this nature will be banned for C1.7.

Poor Conduct

Unbalanced Attendance
People that attend a liaison should only be those who are required, if you don't need to be present to resolve the debate, don't turn up. Ideally, there should be a balanced number of player(s) from both sides of the situation. We should absolutely not have full gangs joining rooms, if the situation involves many players, designate a spokesperson. If you need, you can request staff presence, however staff are likely to be unable to provide a full "staff opinion".

"Forcing" a Liaison
Trying to guilt trip or force players to join and partake in a liaison isn't acceptable, doing so is in violation of C1.14.

Summary

Liaisons are for resolving situations and increasing player understanding of the rules, they're not for witch-hunts, scare tactics or condescending behaviour. We're all here to play a game and liaisons should be an environment of learning!

As always, if you've got any questions, you're always welcome to open a ticket, we'll assist where we can.

In terms of this, how would you acquire the compensation ? Should staff be requested to process a comp req or is it a player to player trade in game ?

It's also worth mentioning that compensation is for legitimate use in organic situations.
What would you define as an organic situation ? Player RDM’s you and dumps you, do you require the amount of assets lost of that player or do you need to put up a player report wait for it to be actioned and then request comp on forums ?

Thanks

Bank transfers, meeting up to provide items, etc is all valid. Providing compensation in this way should be seen as "OOC".

What would you define as an organic situation ?
I included this clause to prevent gangs/groups just planning out gunfights OOC and then handing back gear so that they could just do it on loop. Anything that occurs naturally in-game, is eligible to be compensated for if there is a shared belief of a rulebreak.
