So at the moment the only way to get certain materials is through pharmacy robberies and even though this system is great it can feel very limiting and at times an exclusive activity for large groups. There is a mad dash at peak times to get to the pharmacies before anyone else and there are many times where tills get left open ending any chance others might have at acquiring materials. So…

💡 New Job & Skill Idea: Scavenging & Salvaging

An idea to merge crim & civ RP stories

🧭 The Concept

Random NPC informants appear around the map (alleys, clubs, docks, etc). They sell package drop info for cash. Prices can vary and the contents are completely random.
Once you buy info, you get a text with rough coords + a timer before the package disappears. Locations could be anywhere around the map including floating in the water out at sea!

Players must find and scavenge the package (carry it like a crate). Each successful pickup levels your Scavenging skill but if you try to open it yourself you lose XP.

To actually open it, you’ll need another player with a Salvaging skill. The higher their level, the less chance of damaging the contents. Split the loot, pay them off, or double-cross them?! All great RP potential!

🎁 Loot System

Loot is completely random, scaled by scavenging skill (higher skill means slightly higher chance to get decent goods).

  • Low-tier: ‘junk’ but something that can still be sold or traded (springs, plastic bags, fruit etc)
  • Mid-tier: crafting / drug materials
  • High-tier: kevlar, gun parts, slightly higher quantities of materials
Could be total trash… or the score of a lifetime. Just to be clear, you are essential gambling; you are taking a chance that the package you have paid for will have something valuable inside! The above is just an example of what the packages could contain.

⚖️ Anti-Abuse / Balancing

  • ⏳ Cooldowns on buying info & opening packages
  • 🚫 No XP gain for F6 / gang members working together (meaning groups will have to network and interact with others)
  • 🎲 RNG loot + rotating NPC spawns to stop farming
  • 🔐 Limit: 1 active package per player
  • 🧨 Attempting to open a package without a Salvager risks destroying most of the contents
  • 👮‍♂️ NPC informants don’t give out information when ‘security is too high’

In short:

Buy shady info → find the drop → scavenge it → find a salvager to open it → cut a deal → hope it’s not junk.

Big risk, big reward, tons of RP.

Btw I used ai to refine this idea because my original notes were really long and boring so this is a shorter easier to read version! Any notes or comments on how to make this idea better welcome.

Pros:

  • Combines civ, crim, and cop RP. Players must work with each other and build trusted networks
  • Natural money sink (paying informants) paying for info feels very realistic
  • Promotes exploration & teamwork
  • Lots of potential to grow into interesting and fun story arcs ( coastguards, professional salvager / scavengers )
  • Bidding wars over unopened packages!
  • Creates an underground blackmarket for traders

Cons:

  • lots of dev work
 
100% more fun ways to get materials would always be welcome. There is no RP behind being sat in the mines for days on end.

For example server events like helicopter crashes and first one there can scavenge 25 steel for example.

I know there is a suggestion for revamping panning which is well needed too, and on that threat I commented on metal detecting.

It would be cool to gain a whole new system for finding materials and parts a whole range of ways.

Additionally a way to “scrap” police firearms for materials would be good. Not something worth the risk of robbing police for however something worth getting rid of old useless items.

I like the idea of scrapping police weapons but nothing to insane so they get robbed every 5 minutes

Something like
10-15 steel for a glock
25 for a SMG
50 for a AR
100-150 for a sniper

Feel if that’s the return I personally wouldn’t wanna chance myself against firearms for 25-50 steel

this doesn't sound bad tbf but wont most police just have a fuss about loot box rp?

That’s what the report forums are for and police carry the same pistol bullets every gun uses yet no one goes around loot boxing them for it
