Park Ranger Dispatch revamp/trainings

Good morning beautiful Devs

Lets jump right in, Park Rangers currently really cant do a lot other than drive around the mountains in hope of finding someone requiring assistance. The dispatch system via phone isnt really relevant ive only ever seen it used for people needing interviews, and if some one is injured they cant use thier phone or they are out of range, maybe they twisted an ankle or have been bitten by a cougar but can only notify NHS, there is so much potential for Park Ranger RP and I believe the below would help greatly. And before people say this isnt your remit, you are wrong and I am sure NHS would love the support! Be like on call service, I maybe working in Hardwick then suddenly have to run out get my gear and help someone.

Park Rangers are / should be highly trained arguably to an even higher standard than NHS response. ( See info at bottom of post )

So my suggestion - Note the below wouldnt be for every park ranger it could be a promotion / time served system

  • Allow Park Rangers to see medical dispatches ( Only attend in city if no NHS paramedics are on duty, or to help as directed by NHS if its busy )
  • Park Rangers to attend all dispatches north of city
  • Park Rangers to be advanced medically trained.
  • - ID Card, - internal panic, - Escort ability
  • Helipad at Ranger Station for search & rescue in those hard to reach areas or to reach Paleto area quickly ( I recommend the chopper with the bail out ropes so it doesnt have to land all the time )
  • helicopter-rescue-series.jpg

WIKI info on Ranger trainings

Emergency medical services: rangers are often certified as wilderness first responderswilderness emergency medical technicians or paramedics. Rangers operate ambulances and respond to medical incidents ranging from bumps and bruises to heart attacks and major trauma.

Firefighting: rangers are often the first to spot wildland fires and are often trained to fight wildfires; in some parks, rangers also carry out prescribed fires and fight structure fires.

Search and rescue: the wilderness aspect of many areas of the National Park System offers unique natural hazards for visitors. Search and rescue trained rangers help visitors with injuries or illnesses suffered in remote wilderness areas or who become stranded in technical environments like swift water and high angle rock. These rangers are often expert climbers, boaters, or managers of the Incident Command System. Searches can range from children who wander away from Visitor Centers to expert climbers who suffer a major accident while climbing.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I have put a lot of thought into it and got feedback from current rangers and command.

Constructive feedback welcomed!

+1 Park Rangers could function with an on-call Search and Rescue capability in a similar way to many volunteer SAR organisations in the UK and they could then support the NHS by transporting patients to safer to reach locations or to hospital.

+1 All of the above makes sense to me. Park Rangers have been an important part of the server for quite some time would love to see them have more abilities and ways of entering some RP situations.

I agree that a rework would be nice, but the medical side of it, I'm not that keen on.
The NHS has a search and rescue unit, that take care of that, and it would require a clear line seperating the NHS and the rangers.
Maybe like how police can do basic stuff, until NHS arrives, but more than that is treading unto someone elses turf 😉

Can you go into why you dont agree with the park Rangers being medically trained? Yes the NHS have a search and rescue unit but they are not always available especially at peak times with the server constantly expanding you always see people complaining on ooc xD, Park Rangers as per my post are highly trained like paramedics and can assist but mainly out of the city unless NHS need us ( which they do ) .  I cant think of any negatives to them not being?  There is clear lines in my opinion, I dont think youre gonna see park ranger trucks flying around the city. Paramedics will still have plenty to do with this being implimented so I dont think any "turfs" are being trod on 😛

Park Rangers will be attending, stabizing if possible but as you said they are not "doctors" so anything major will be a trip to the NHS Hospital. Same applies to Paramedics in the city. Paramedics are an arm of the NHS they are not doctors, really struggling to see your argument wife :p

+1 from me. The resources that the Park Rangers have access to at the moment is very limiting. I feel like adding more to it would definitely open up a lot more RP opportunities and give the Rangers a lot more responsibilities.

Love this Edwago! We do our best with what resources we have at the Rangers however I can agree that we do need a bit of a revamp and more training. We respond to quite a lot of search and rescue dispatches as well as to scenes which people need medical help such as cougar attacks which we simply aren't trained to do the medical part of the dispatch. I want the Rangers to be able to complete most dispatches from start to finish, not half a job as we call for other public services to finish the job off for us which can be frustrating at times when there isn't any available public services in which in some call outs, we just have to leave it be.

As far as ID cards go, I personally love the idea of having Park Ranger lanyards, same as what NHS have as I do not like it when I have to show my citizen ID as a form of proving I am a Ranger. If anything, I do not mind at all making a mock up for Ranger lanyards with me being a free-lance GFX designer as I would just need the texture for the badge and lanyard so I can move forward with this. And as far as panic buttons, it's a no brainer that we need them as soon as possible.

There has been a few things that are already onboard and requested to be added to the Park Rangers already however there are still some crucial stuff that a lot of Rangers want to see either changed, removed or added to the Rangers which I'm all up for. The possibilities for the Rangers are near endless and I'm excited for the future of the Park Rangers once we start to change and develop and make it MUCH more fun for all Rangers.

Thank you again for the suggestion, big +1 from me!

+1 rangers are great as a basis on RP but can be limited by what we have at our disposal a small revamp, could elevate us further.

-1 from, only few reasons for this only due to its going to take away from the NHS which has little to do.

1. making the rangers attend medical calls I don't like only due to the fact park rangers in the uk do not specialise in the medical field and are basically gardeners looking after wildlife.

2. search and rescue will also be a no from me, due to it taking away from the NHS side of things yet again and in the uk park rangers are not trained to do search and rescues.

3. fire fighting is also a no from me only due to the fact its yet taking away from the NHS as stated above also.

feel free to try and change my mind why this should happen?

I feel the problem at current is that dispatches that are out of the city are not attended to due to more happening in city but there has been more and more of ranger, hunters needing NHS or other emergency services and that dispatches are not first come first serve.

Maybe this could be improved by have separate emergency services for city and separate for sandy and paleto?(LIKE DIFFERENT JURISTICTIONS)

I personally feel NHS and fire service should be separated.

Also the UK park rangers are trained in assisting with search and rescue and the coastguard.

As its stand fire wont be separating from the NHS and has already been said my multiple people

Im confused, everytime I see NHS they are swamped so I dont understand the "will take away from NHS" comments as they have plenty to do, probably too much. I see daily people complaining in OOC reference no paramedics, and then them being told to apply to make a diference etc.

As stated it wouldnt be to cover the city unless requested or no NHS on duty at all, its purely to improve RP within the faction & city as a whole.

Hello there.
I am kind of on the bench here in regards to your post.
But if I had to chose I'd be a +1.
Park Rangers as a whole might need a small revamp to spice things up.
Maybe the adding of internal panic, maybe their own little "warrant" card, maybe some vehicles, maybe more things to do in RP, limitless possibilities with the right ideas.

Now this is where I might need your clarification about the quoted bellow.

  • Park Rangers to be advanced medically trained.
In regards to the Advanced Medical Training,  as far as I can see,  Park Rangers have been invited multiple times by the NHS to teach them in regards to medical they might encounter on their day-to-day business, but were informed they WILL NOT have the revive ability (like police has). The second they were informed they wouldn't have said ability, they lost interest. Now keep in mind this was when Astrid was in charge, and was more than happy to push for this RP.

I fully support the Rangers receiving more purpose in their role, so I hope you can forgive me for nitpicking some of the ideas provided.

Allow Park Rangers to see medical dispatches ( Only attend in city if no NHS paramedics are on duty, or to help as directed by NHS if its busy )

Park Rangers to be advanced medically trained
Where is the difference between Rangers and NHS if Rangers are performing the exact same duties? Why not just join the NHS if you want to play medic?
Seeing dispatches I can get behind (especially up north) and I'm all for Rangers supporting the NHS where possible/it makes sense, but having Rangers attend scenes in the main city? Ehhh maybe not.

Also where does this leave the NHS S&R department if Rangers would pretty much take over from them?

Park Rangers to attend all dispatches north of city
A tricky one that brings arguments to mind that can be found on servers with two police departments (Blaine County Sheriff and LSPD) when it comes to the respective area of operations and encroaching on the other party's section. Can work, can also be a giant headache.

Full support on the helipad/having access to group helicopters, makes perfect sense, as well as the remaining points (except maybe the ambulance model, something less American might fit in better).

thanks for all the replies! Duke im with you on what you are saying tbh. Maybe it will be best to just allow rangers to see dispatches ( so they can attend people out in the wilderness ) but not give them the ability to revive people, as this seems to be the main point people have againts my original post, which I can agree with. This will allow rangers to RP with the player base get them to a hospital etc etc.

ref search and rescue, same would apply, literally just search and rescue, with medical RP but no revive, purly assisting the NHS by transporting and helping.

And yea the american vehicle model may not be the best idea xD
