Unban Appeal for BenC

In-game Name: Ben Thomas

Server: GTA RP

Steam ID: 76561198283644476

Ban ID: !!rpuk8917!!

Reason given for your ban: C2.2 & G2.3

In your own words, please type why you think you were banned.: On the 5th June 2022 I was banned for exploiting after a bug with the police drone which has since been fixed caused me to be invincible. You don’t know if you’re invincible until you get into a situation like I did. About an hour after flying the drone I was chasing a truck with about 20 guys on the back of it and they jumped off in order to attack me. I pulled out a firearm and tried to shoot them to defend myself. They continued to hit me, more and more however my health bar did not go down. I didn’t realise at first until it was too late however I should’ve, and when I did, I did nothing about it which was wrong of me and I’m completely daft and stupid not to and I want to put it right now. I had downed one person whilst the rest ran away. I arrested the guy and processed him on the streets and gave him a £2000 fine but at the same time, like an idiot I acted as if I had just been in a wonderland. Not roleplaying injuries. This combined with the exploiting caused me to be banned and I realise, after my reflection that it could’ve been all fixed in 2 clicks of a button. All I had to do was /die. I didn’t and therefore I received a permanent ban for exploiting and not roleplaying injuries. It is my fault, no one else's and I’m taking responsibility and hope to put things right with everyone who was involved and also the staff that banned me.

Why should we unban you ?: I’ve now been banned for a month, a month of reflection, a month to see what I’ve done wrong. From day 1 I was confused and was in denial of what really happened. When I woke up on Sunday I found out I was banned and I had never been banned on any server or any game before so it was a shock, and to find out that it was a permanent ban was even more of a blow. When I submitted my last unban appeal I admit, all I was doing was making excuses, excuses don’t put things right and certainly I wasn’t taking responsibility for my actions. To put it simply, I messed up and now I’m going to try and put it right. With the exploiting, I can promise you that I had no malicious intent with the situation and I can honestly say I had no prior knowledge of the bug before the situation, that being said though and after a conversation I had with management they explained to me how the exploiting rule is actually applied and I understand it better now and I admit that I made a grave mistake of not /dying and continuing with the situation so yes now I do admit to the exploiting and I would like to make a personal apology to every single person in that situation who lost something whether it was time, happiness or money and I would be more than happy to compensate the person who was fined. At the time I thought I was doing the right thing (by continuing the rp) but now after looking back at the situation I know I wasn’t, and there was so much I could’ve done better and everything I shouldn’t have done. There's no excuses anymore and I would like to own up to my actions and seriously apologise to all that was involved. As management told me “even if I didn’t intend to exploit, I benefited and won which makes the outcome the same”, I read this a few times and took it in. I did win in a situation, however this ruins the gameplay for others. At the end of the day it is a game and how can someone enjoy the game if I ruin it for them. My judgement was wrong and I apologise. At the time my judgement was wrong and I should’ve noticed what I was doing and stopped, I hold my hands up and apologise for everything and I hope I can put all wrong, right.

Now why should I be unbanned? Well I’ve been a part of the community for a year this month and I’ve never been banned before this and on other communities and other games I’ve never had a ban. I have put a lot of work into this community mainly for the police, I have put hours of work in and have tried to make the police a better place. I created a whole database for CID which I hoped to help CID with that, however I never got to see it in action after my idiotic actions. This doesn’t excuse me for what I’ve done however I think it should be taken into account to show I do have dedication to the community and that if I do get unbanned then I will continue to work hard and put things right. I believe we all make mistakes in moments of madness, it was a lot more than a mistake but I’m willing to put it behind me, remember it, act off it and learn from it. I feel that if you learn from your mistakes that's a lot more valuable than anything else. I fucked up, I admit it and I sincerely apologise for it and I hope the people that were affected can forgive me. My Ben Thomas character I think has provided good roleplay for his time here and certainly through his CID investigations has certainly had some effect in shaping parts of the server. My first ever investigation on Albert Berstine and Bon Janos took around 3 months and we went through the courts and as far as I know both of the guys enjoyed it and I certainly did, it was something new and exciting which hadn’t occurred that often before as far as I know. I’ve made enemies but some good friends on my cop character which is part of the role but from my time there, many people were brought together with a common goal and a common aim. I spent a lot of time on my police character and I made some good friends and to see that all go to waste in the space of an hour was heartbreaking. Because of a string of mistakes that evening, it cost me a lot, it cost me more than I gained and to have it ripped away (as it should’ve been) it really showed how much you miss something whilst it’s gone. I vow now that in the future if I do get unbanned that I will make sure that I don’t do anything wrong, we will always make mistakes as that’s human however the big mistakes like exploiting won’t. In the month of reflection it’s made me realise that admitting your mistakes and correcting them is the best way forward and I respect rpuk’s decision to ban me but I hope you can forgive me and you will allow me back to this community and I vow to you that I will work hard to not only correct my mistakes but learn from them. And again I apologise to all those that were affected from my actions.

Please confirm that you have read the unban appeal process and rules: Yes

Good Morning @BenC

Reading this appeal and going back to our conversation in teamspeak last month it's almost as if we are speaking on a level field this time, So this is refreshing to see. Lets jump into this.

In relation to this bug you mention you was unaware, This was talked about in the CID chat. Did you not see this or was this simply ignored?

Just after the situation when you was being called out in ooc chat you was claiming it was everyone's fault but your own for you not going down, Whilst yes this was a bug and I somewhat agree, You also take ownership for your actions within situations. Whilst I understand that we all can have a "Moment of madness" how much does it take to become apparent that this isn't alright and maybe you should take actions yourself ?

When you come to teamspeak and we spoke, Why did you believe making excuses for what happened would help in this situation?

@Stuart

Good morning Stuart. The bug I was not aware of and if there was a message about it I must of missed it. Before the whole situation I had reduced my activity a bit and I was checking things like discord and stuff less and sometimes I was getting quite a few tags per day so I may of missed it and if there was a message, but that’s not an excuse but merely a realisation that it’s my duty to check my messages in order to find important information so it is my fault for not seeing the message an I apologise. I will make sure in the future to check for important messages such as the one that was put out that I missed.

The messages in ooc were inexcusable, I should’ve held my tongue and shouldn’t of said anything. I should’ve contacted staff to try and fix the problem but at the time I was being called out for cheating in side chat so my instinct was to defend myself. However I did not do this in the right way and there was so many better ways of dealing with the situation in every possible way such as speak to staff or even the people about it. I ruined their experience and they were angry as they had every right to be and I reacted to that rather than solving it. It should’ve been an instant realised I was in the wrong and now looking back at it I shouldn’t of said or done anything of the sort and solve it in the proper ways. From now on, this situation has really opened my eyes and helped me to look at things from the perspective of others and I hope and have full confidence that I will solve it properly next time and not erupt like I did and report things to staff immediately once they happen. I think this is a one off and I will make sure that it never happens again.

As for the teamspeak, when I woke up on the Sunday to find out I was banned was a shock for me and I was confused and had a lot of emotion and wasn’t acting rationally. Like the ooc messages, I tried to defend myself. I tried to defend myself without proper knowledge of the rule of exploiting but since then management and yourself explained it to me well; which is even if I don’t intend to if the outcome is the same by winning due to a bug it is exploiting and that I should’ve noticed it and acted on it but I didn’t. I shouldn’t of reacted like I did and I apologise for wasting both Mystixs and your time. I should’ve taken responsibility for my actions and owned up. Like I said earlier I always tried to defend myself but now this has opened up my eyes and I now realise that I should’ve owned up to my actions and taken responsibility which  I will now do. Even if I’m not allowed back into the community I shall take this advice and use it everywhere I go whether it’s real life or other online games. I would just like to thank you for taking your time with this whole situation to help me understand it and I apologise for the hassle I’ve caused and I look to learn from this. Even though this is a punishment I’ve learnt a lot from it and hope to use it to improve myself in the future and once again to improve myself and learn from my mistakes and fix them.

Afternoon Ben,

No problem, We knew there was a post made (Not an announcement) however was unsure if you did in fact see said post by one of the DI's.

Whilst I understand in the moment you are correct in what you should of done over what did happen, Since it was one of them situations that don't happen to often however if there is an issue then it's best to contact us as soon as possible so we are one informed and two carry on the situation if it's in the middle of RP so in this situation you should of done /die upon noticing the issues.

It's not a problem, We are here to help and the way you are in this appeal is what we was hoping for from the beginning. If you took responsibility for your actions on teamspeak last month you wouldn't of been here making an appeal. This is the outcome we was wanting from the start, To know what you did in the situation and what steps should of been taken moving forward whilst you are in the community.

You indeed have give a lot to the community and minus one hiccup September 2021 you've kept your nose clean and you do provide good roleplay within the community. I am however glad you understand the reason why it went this route as a whole was from what happened within teamspeak and how you handled the situation previously. I'm confident that this has been a learning experience for yourself and I do hope that should you encounter any bug if it gives an advantage like the one that landed you here that you do notify the staff team as soon as possible, Can be done via a ticket in discord if it's a major issue like the drone was previously.

I'm happy to issue you the unban however please keep in mind what's been said here and from what we discussed in teamspeak last month. Welcome back and hope to see you enjoying yourself in situations again moving forth.

Unbanned!
