This post has had no activity, from either players or the staff team, since 2023. Since then, rule suggestions and discussions have moved to
Discord. I’m reviewing and processing the older suggestions here so they don’t remain open indefinitely.
The portion of the rule is there to prevent impersonation of well-known characters, celebrities, etc, like the names that have been listed off in the responses. It does not need a change. In the case where someone was forced to change their character's name because it was the same as another character on a different RP server, which I'd never heard of until now, is certainly an extreme and likely didn't fall in line with guidance, tbh, though context is key.
Liam explained staff's stance on the rule well:
"We're told, if you need to Google the name. Don't reset it, hence why you'll see them." - the final portion referring to why some people's names slip through, though they may fall into the 'banned' category.
Ultimately, we don't want to see Boris Johnson, Barack Obama, Keir Starmer, or any other celebrity name being used as someone's character name; it's obvious where they got it from, and their intentions by using those names. We want players to create their own stories, with their own names and characters, not a 'funny-ha-ha' moment with someone else's.
Thank you for the suggestion. Given the above, the suggestion will be rejected.
